Bio

From being recognized for her work in respected international songwriting competitions to the way she intrigues fans with her unique finger-style guitar playing, singer-songwriter Florence Foxwell is entertaining music lovers with her own spirit of contemporary folk infused with the sounds of country, pop, and rock. Her original music has already netted her honorable mentions in the 2000 John Lennon Songwriting Contest as well as the 10th International Billboard Songwriting Contest.

While most musicians and songwriters discover the craft at an early age, Florence’s spin in the world of music did not begin until later in life. She started using music as a way to creatively express her life experiences and feelings about world events. In the years since, she has released two full-length CDs. The first CD, Open Windows, was released in 1999. Her follow-up CD, entitled Outside the Box, dropped in 2004. Florence considers both to be concept albums with Open Windows giving listeners an opportunity to experience her music when she was just beginning to discover a new world of expression and Outside the Box telling the story of her continued growth as an artist.

Florence’s single I Try earned her a 2nd place finish in the Unisong International Song Contest’s Artists and Performance category while another single, Outside The Box, placed in the Top 20 of the competition’s category for songs examining social issues.

When she isn’t focused on her music or working her 33-hundred acre farm, Florence dedicates much of her time and energy to helping others. She sponsors two children she met through African Children’s Choir, a traveling music group made up of children from the war-torn country of Uganda and other countries in Africa. Florence also serves as artistic director at Jayme’s Fitness and Dance, a school owned and operated by her daughter. Additionally, she loves to travel and has visited popular destinations such as Greece, Turkey, Mexico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, China and the United States.

Florence is a member of SOCAN (Society of Composers Authors and Music Publishers of Canada), SAC (Songwriting Association of Canada), CARAS (Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences), CIRAA (Canadian Independent Recording Artists’ Association) and AMIA (Alberta Music Industry Association).
